Hoops 4 Hope is holding its 2018 annual event on February 9th at the Miramar Youth Enrichment Center. It combines educational information, basketball, and scholarships for the purpose of engaging local youth and guiding them toward better opportunities located “Right here in Miramar.” Fundraisers throughout the year generate money for scholarships. Sponsorships are always available.
The event consists of a basketball tournament happening concurrently with a college fair to give students better exposure to higher education. The tournament was organized by the Miramar Police Department and the Miramar Police Athletic League.
The Hoops 4 Hope Scholarships Application Process
Scholarship registration began in August 2017 and closed January 19 of 2018. Applicants must be seniors and attend a Miramar-based high school. Students submitted an application package and a 500-word essay. They also sent a copy of their transcripts/report cards to show they maintained or exceeded a 3.0 Grade Point Average accompanied by a letter from a school official or School Resource Officer. Finally, the application had to be hand-delivered by the student or their BRACE (Broward Advisors for Continuing Education) Administrator to the Miramar Police Department or to Officer Brittany Parker at firstname.lastname@example.org. The deadline for delivery was January 29th.
